Special and weird liveries used in F1 (IV)

This penultimate article in the series features rarely used, special or weird liveries throughout the history of F1 (Bar "zipper" and Honda "Earth" already included in previous articles of the series). Enjoy this vintage article:

Special and weird liveries used in F1 (IV)

1993 Ligier JS39
Martin Brundle's special livery in 1993 Japanese GP and Australian GP.

1969 McLaren MC7
The original McLaren livery was orange.
(that explains the orange T-shirts used by McLaren staff after wins)

2006 McLaren MP4-21
Livery used in tests.(it was used also in the 1997, 1998 and 2005 F1 season during testing )

1986 McLaren MP4/2C
Designed to promote the new Marlboro Lights brand of cigarettes.

1997 Lola T97/30 Ford
Due to pressure from main sponsor MasterCard, the car was rushed into service a year before the initial plan.At Melbourne, the first brief tests showed that both cars were slow in a straight line and also in the corners; the aerodynamics producing too much drag and not enough downforce. This also meant the cars could not get the tyres up to the right temperature. Both drivers never even got near a good enough time to qualify, as they struggled in the difficult-handling cars. In the end neither Sospiri or Rosset managed to qualify, 11 and 13 seconds respectively off the pace. (Wikipedia)

1958 Ferrari 246Dino
Olivier Gendebien's (Belgian - Belgium's racing colour was yellow) yellow Ferrari: back then the drivers were proud of their national colours.

1946 NART Ferrari
A Ferrari 158 officially entered by NART sealed the win of the 1964 F1 World championship with John Surtees, as the factory team competed the last two races in cars painted white and blue. This was done as a protest concerning arguments between Ferrari and the Italian Racing Authorities regarding the homologation of a new mid-engined Ferrari race car. (Wikipedia)

2001 Ferrari F2001
September 2001, Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Italy.
(9-11 Black Nose Livery used to commemorate victims)

It was used again, in 2005, when the pope died.

2008 Red Bull RB4
Coulthard's Red Bull RB4 was decorated in the colours of "Wings for Life", a charity dedicated to raising awareness of spinal cord injuries. The car raced at the Brazilian GP. (Wikipedia)

2007 Red Bull RB3
Over 30,000 pictures had been uploaded onto the livery of David Coulthard and Mark Webber’s cars, raising over a million dollars for the charity, Wings for Life. The car raced at the British GP. (Wikipedia)

2006 Red Bull RB2
Red Bull Racing livery, promoting 'Superman Returns'.(Monaco, 2006)

2005 Red Bull RB1
For the 2005 Monaco Grand Prix both Red Bull Racing cars ran a special livery to promote
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

1979 Shadow DN9 Ford
The lion paint job was hand made!

1977 Hesketh Ford 308E Ford
Car sponsored by Penthouse.

Top 20 Best Liveries In Formula 1 History (III)

I'm sure many are waiting for this and I'm not going to bother you with poetic descriptions.

Top 20 Best Liveries In Formula 1 History (III)

20. 1982 Osella FA1C
I'm sure few heard this name before but they usually had good liveries.

19. 1978 Brabham Alfa Romeo BT46
Pure racing livery!

18. 2001 Prost AP04
The blue theme fitted perfectly the Prost F1 Team.

17. 2004 Jaguar R5
Jaguar may be long gone from F1 but their livery remains one of the best!

16. 1993 Williams FW15C
The last of the Canon-Camel liveries on the most advanced F1 car of all times.

15. 1991 Mclaren MP4-6
This simple combination became one of the most popular liveries in F1.

14. 2011 Mercedes GP MGP W02
Fell in love with this car since day 1!

13. 2008 Red Bull RB4
Best Red Bull livery to date!

12. 2000 Arrows A21
This car was so refreshing to see on TV.

11. 1977 Lotus 78
One of the most recognizable liveries in F1 History. Black never looked this good...

10. 2004 Williams FW26
The livery is eclipsed only by the stunning nose!

9.  1991 Jordan 191
7-UP? As in 7 World Drivers Championship?
Michael Schumacher made his debut in F1 with this car at SPA.

8. 2003 Sauber C22
When Sauber used to have sponsors they made the car looked like this!

7. 2006 Mclaren Mp4-21
By far the best version of the "silver arrows"... This car was the bomb!

6. 1997 Arrows FA18
Arrows straight to the heart!

5. 2008 Ferrari F2008
This paint job describes the Ferrari passion for F1!

4. 2008 BMW F108
Everything fits perfectly on this car but shame it didn't deliver in the championship...

3. 1995 Benetton B195
United colours of Benetton (indeed)!

2. 1996 Williams FW18
The Rothmans Williams Renault liveries (better than FW19) - one of the best in Motorsport history!

1. 1983 Renault RE40
For some reason this car looks awesome... so simple and balanced...can't find nothing wrong with it!
My favorite paint job of all time! Love it!
